If you go down to sit and you rise up to stand , explain the difference between sit up and stand down

  "Stand up"means to move from a sitting or lying position to a standing position,like when you're sitting and you "stand up" to answer the door.

  On the other hand,'stand down' typically means to step back or withdraw,often used in contexts like elections or conflicts.For example,"the candidate agreed to stand down after the scandal"

   So,if you're lying down and you "sit up" you're moving to a sitting position,if you're sitting and you "stand up", you're moving to standing position.And if you're told to "stand down",it is time to back off
